The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) Movie Reviews

Review Roundup:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is "a little less long" and "a little less boring" than its predecessor. It's "intense" with plenty of "emotional tension" and "dazzling fantasy" but includes some "meandering." The fantastical dragon is "to die for" and the three hour run time is "justified."

A huge amount of time and creativity was required to design the scenery and direct the action scenes. The 3d effect is also good. I give it a C because I don't like the characters and it is very drawn out. Fans will love it.

I saw this in 3D hoping to maximize the visual experience in case the story failed. The 3D was fine but story of Bilbo was more Forest Gump. Dark dystopian landscapes so numerous it was depressing. Last 45 mins I wanted to lv theater.

In the same vein as the prior Peter Jackson Tolkein movies - exciting, visually stimulating, long and many highly improbable events, but very enjoyable none the less!

I'd did not feel like a movie as much as AUJ did. Too much unrealistic fighting. Too many fluff conflicts like the Lake Town one and the Necromancer one. Azog should not have been there. He dragon fight was too long. Hard to hold your pee!
