Bridges and the Coen brothers at the top of their games, and a absolute scene stealing debut by Hailee Steinfeld. It's faithful to the conventions of the Western, yet feels thoroughly modern at the same time.

Jeff Bridges is simply one of the best actors of our time, and Hailee Steinfeld is a truly golden find.

While faithful to Western genre, True Grit just felt flat. Steinfeld's performance is overrated--she's good, but not nearly as good as everyone says. Jeff Bridges steals the show. But even in a year with no Firth, there'd be no Oscars here.

This was awfully disappointing: I suspect this is because of the mediocrity of the book. The teen girl heroine never uses contractions-do the directors think ppl talked like that in 1878? Where's the climax? The villain & tone are wrong.

I've never seen a movie in the English language in which there were no contractions used in the dialogue, causing incredibly stilted speech. Two characters actually used a Latin phrase. It's a shame because of some cleverly-drawn characters.

All in all another solid outing from the Coen Brothers', although they have yet to achieve the perfection of films like No Country for Old Men and Fargo recently.

A fine Western from the Coen Brothers. Excellent acting and direction. Supporting Oscar nominations were deserved.Consistently interesting and surprising.

I'd like to thank Jeff Bridges for not aping John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn.
